After Hope's Death the AmaMpondomise cut the telegraph lines, pulled down the jail at Qumbu and destroyed papers for the residencies. Mhlonhlo and Mditswa were rebelling, the beginning of what is known as Hope's war, Mpondomise rebellion or the Transkei Rebellion.

Mhlonhlo/Mhlontlo later would partner up the Batlokwa of Lelingoana/Ledigwana. At this time another chief of AbeThembu joined the uprising Mdukiswa with Tyala.

While Basotho rebel factions (the Mabelete faction) suffered many defeats caused by the Cape colonial troops and loyalists Basotho (the Matikete faction).

Which led to the fortification of Lerothodi village. The village was destroyed by the Cape forces and Mabelete were forced to flee.

Other small skirmishes happened  from the 16th of November which caused Masupha son of Moshoeshoe to ask for additional ammunition and firearms. From Brand President of the Orange Free State, Brand denied Masupha's request the rebels were losing their almost all their battles so far.
